Resumen Abstract
En muchos momentos de la historia del arquitecto ha existido confusión acerca del rol de tal profesión, incluso acerca de su consideración como tal, frente a la de un simple oficio. De entre estos momentos, se desarrolla en este artículo la situación en Inglaterra durante el siglo XVIII, eligiendo para ello como figuras ejemplares la de Christopher Wren y algunos de los profesionales que se relacionaron, de un modo u otro, con él. La variedad de itinerarios de acceso a la arquitectura, así como del propio planteamiento de ésta convierten a este momento en buena muestra de los vaivenes profesionales.
In many moments throughout the history of the architect, there has been confusion about the role of this profession, even about such consideration as against that of a simple craft. Of these moments, the situation in England in the 18th century is developed in this paper, choosing Christopher Wren and some of the professionals who were related with him, in one way or another, as exemplar characters to do so. The variety of routes leading to architecture, as well as its own approach, makes this moment a good example of the continuous professional swaying.
